Finding Ghosts
Churches: Some churches were built on top of sites that may have been considered evil. It was thought this would drive away any evil spirits. Many faithful worshipers return to continue their relationship with the higher being of their earthly faith. These can be the most haunted places. Some reports include candles lighting and strange glowing lights or images of crosses. It is believed these spirits may be trying to find the salvation they could not achieve in life.
Hotels, Boarding Houses and Inns: Quite a wide range of activities at these locations. From the day to day living, to the fly by night crook or weary traveler or lovelorn women awaiting a true love who has never returned, these buildings retain a lot of unsettled energy. There has been so much activity at these type places. If there were murders or suicides for example, they tend to contain residual hauntings. Commonly heard are sounds of scuffles, women moaning or crying and footsteps.
Schools and Colleges: The energy of the young, the exuberance, the emotion of all these children easily attract those crossed over. The relatives who have crossed do not want to be left out of the school play or graduation. Colleges hold the energy of teenagers, eager and excited to be on their own for the first time. The tragedy of an accident or suicide lingers. Almost every school and college has a ghost story.
Theaters: The magic of the arts. A place where one can get lost and away from the day to day drudgery and problems. There are so many who love the theater now and in times past. Such passion of emotion put into one area easily draws on the imagination and brings to mind pleasant memories. Be sure to look into dressing rooms, projection booths, the stage and seating areas (balconies are good spots). Theaters usually hold either residual or traditional hauntings. Many have reported sounds of applause, whispering, and laughter.
Historic Locations: Almost any historic building mostly because of the age and number of people that have crossed over these thresholds. Remember the amount of energy expended at those town meetings when our towns were first being formed. Perhaps an issue was never resolved the list goes on and on. Most historic buildings are preserved so that they are furnished and decorated as they were when being used. Any spirit who remains because they are attached to the building itself will find this very desirable.
Private Homes: Not only older homes have hauntings. There are a variety of spirits to be found in private dwellings. A prolonged illness resulting in death will usually cause a residual type haunting. Someone may have died accidentally when the home was being built; maybe there was a murder, suicide or other type of tragic death in the home or on the land. All of these can result in hauntings of various types and degrees. The older the home is the more likely it is to have some type of mystery to it. A lot of work goes into investigating a private home and the good paranormal researcher/investigator will follow all the steps to ensure the most accurate results.
