Finding Ghosts

Cemeteries are usually one of the first places we experience the paranormal. Age of the cemetery doesn't matter, but the older ones seem to hold more activity. They also seem to have more time to establish restless spirits. One theory of cemeteries being haunted is because they expect us to find them (spirits) there! Some say this is where the portals to the astral planes can be found.

Cemeteries that have unmarked graves, where victims of tragedy (i.e. murder or accidents) gave been buried and especially if there has been desecration of the site are excellent types to investigate.

Always be sure to check with the owner and local police before entering a cemetery after dark. (Most states have laws that prohibit entry after dark.) If you are told no, do not go against the authorities, they WILL arrest you and you can forget about doing an after hours investigation in one again

How to Contact the Owner/Caretaker/Manager, etc. of a Location

Hello,

My name is __________, I am the founder/director/etc. of (name of your group). We are paranormal researchers and are interested in doing some research at your property/cemetery/etc. Am I speaking to the person who can help me get permission to do this?

At this point they will ask what it is you do, we simply tell them we are interested in researching ghosts by taking pictures, various meter readings, audio and video evidence. Nothing on the property will be harmed; we are professional and follow a strict protocol. If anything happens to any of the team members or the equipment, they are not held liable and we have forms to sign stating this.

How to Approach the Police/Sheriff When asking for Permission

Call the regular phone number listed in the phone book. NEVER call 911 to ask about gaining permission. You are going to explain your intent. That person will either take the information or transfer you to the correct person to talk to. So when you have reached the correct person:

Hi, my name is __________. I am the founder/director/etc. of "your group's name". I have spoken to (give the name of the person who gave you permission) who has signed a permission form for us to do paranormal investigation on their property (give the address/location). We have signed forms from them. We wanted to let you know that we will be there (date and time). There will be ___ people with us. We plan on having ___ vehicles at the location and a cell phone with the number _________ . My license plate number is _______. We wanted you to be aware of us being there so if anyone calls in, you'll know what we are doing.

Now, some will ask what this paranormal investigation, again simply explain you are looking for ghosts and using (name your equipment). There will be no harm done to the property or anything on it (this is especially important with cemeteries).

Don't feel intimidated because you are speaking with the police. You are speaking to a person. Some will say ok, thank you right off, others will ask more questions, some will kid with you (We love to invite them along!). Remember, if the say no, that's it, end of conversation. Just say thank you for hearing me out, I appreciate your time. But again, don't get belligerent or try acting tough, this just makes things worse.

You may want to go back and let the person you got permission from know that the police have denied your request. Some will help you further; others will just let it stand at that.

Move on; look for another place to investigate. There are plenty out there.
